Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (900m).
We will go to the lovely valley of Pokhara through the Prithvi Highway early in the morning. During this picturesque 6- to 7-hour bus ride, you will see the Western Himalayas. Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to visit Pokhara, the lovely lakeside city. You can also go boating in the magnificent Phewa Lake. We’ll spend the night at a nearby hotel.
Day 2 Fly to Jomsom and walk to Kagbeni (2800m).
We’ll take an aircraft from Pokhara to Jomsom, one of Mustang’s main towns. It will take approximately 20 minutes to get there. We’ll take a flight from Pokhara to a magnificent doorway between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. During your flight, you will be treated to stunning views of the hills and mountains. We will hike uphill for 3 hours alongside the Kali Gandaki from Jomsom to Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang. The settlement sits on the banks of two rivers. We’ll spend the night in a hotel.
Day 3 Hike to Chele (3050m)
We will continue our journey along the east bank of the Kali Gandaki, traversing various ridges before heading north to Tangbe village. This charming town is a maze of narrow streets lined with white-washed mud and stone buildings, buckwheat fields, and apple trees. The beautiful Nilgiri dominates Kagbeni’s southern sky. From there, we’ll climb for two hours to Choosing hamlet before crossing the diminishing Kali Gandaki. We’ll make our way up to a massive red mass of sedimentary rock that fell from the cliff above, making a tunnel through which the Kali Gandaki runs. We will travel uphill to Chele after crossing the Kali Gandaki Valley. You will see a gradual shift in culture.
Day 4 Trek to Syangbochen (3800m)
Today’s hike takes us across a steep, bleak landscape alongside a copper-red canyon. We will make a slow drop to several Chortens on a ridge, and then continue downward to the charming village of Samar. From there, we’ll climb a ridge before descending into a massive gorge. We’ll continue trekking through another valley, cross a stream, and then ascend over a 3,800m mountain. We’ll have to climb another pass and traverse another ridge before we can finally descend to Syangbochen.
Day 5 Hike to Ghami (3520m)
From Syangbochen, we will pleasantly go uphill till we reach a pass at 3770m, then descend to Geling village. From Gheling, we shall ascend through fields to the valley’s heart. Then we’ll ascend a difficult terrain through the valley’s head to the Nyi La pass (3840m). From there, we’ll descend for about 30 minutes until we reach a trail fork; the right path leads to Charang, while the left leads to Ghami. It is a village of whitewashed mud and stone buildings that are shaded by an overhanging rock. This is an excellent place to stay the night.
Day 6 Hike to Charang (3560m)
Today we will travel to the driest section of Mustang. It will be a strenuous journey through tough terrain. However, once we arrive, we will be rewarded with magnificent views of the distant countryside, with mountains visible in all directions. We are due for a stop when we arrive in Charang, a huge settlement at the head of the Charang Chu Canyon. A mediaeval fort and a red Gompa with a remarkable collection of statues and thangkas may be found to the east of the hamlet.
Day 7 Hike to Lo-Manthang (3840m)
We will trek to Lo Manthang, one of the trip’s main attractions. This was the Kingdom of Lo’s fortified capital. Ame Pal founded the city in 1380. It is made up of approximately 150 families and residences for lama gurus. We will trek via Lo-Gekar, Nepal’s oldest Gompa, which is older than Tibet’s Samye Gompa. When you arrive in the walled city of Lo, you will have the opportunity to explore the region’s old temples and monasteries, as well as the periphery of the King’s spectacular palace, which is home to the King and Queen of Lo-Manthang. You will get the opportunity to direct horses on a lease while viewing the gorgeous valley.
Day 8 Exploring Lo-Manthang
We will explore the mystical town of Lo-Manthang, starting with a 2-hour visit to the Namgyal Gompa. This beautiful Gompa is situated on a hilltop, which is of high social, religious as well as legal importance as it serves as a local courthouse. After that, we will visit the village of Tingkhar, northwest of Lo Manthang with its 40 households. We will also visit Champa Lhakang where you have a chance to admire a large Buddha statue and intricate Mandalas painted on the walls.
Day 9 Trek to Dhamkar (3820m)
We will depart from Lo-Manthang via the upper highland trail. It will reward us with breathtaking views of Lo-Manthang and the Charang Valley, as well as snow-capped mountains in the distance. We will reach Dhamkar after crossing the Dhi Pass at 4,100m. We’ll spend the night here.
Day 10 Descend to Syangbochen
We will climb down to Syangbochen with Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri, among other giants, in the background. We pass through Rachen Gompa, a mysterious Gompa that grew on its own in the lap of a rocky cave. We’ll spend the night in Syangbochen in a guesthouse.
Day 11 Hike to Chhusang (2980m)
We’ll continue our journey over rugged ridges and hills. We’ll hike to Tetang, Chuksang’s upper town nestled between two hills. It is a safe haven from the harsh winds that frequently blow through the Kali Gandaki valley. Accommodation is provided by a guesthouse.
Day 12 Jomsom (2720m) Trek
On the final day of this unforgettable walk, we will pass via Jharkot village, where we will see the local monastery, the majestic Tibetan Herbal Medicine Center, and an ancient fortification that was once a palace. We will enjoy the scenery of the Kali Gandaki Valley and Kagbeni Village as we descend to Jomsom. This is the entrance to Mustang. We shall celebrate the trek’s final day in Jomsom with all of our team.
Day 13 Flight to Pokhara and City Exploration
After a 20-minute flight to Pokhara, we will spend the remainder of the day exploring and relaxing in the city. Go boating in the exotic Phewa, Rupa, and Begnas Lakes, see the gorgeous hilltop monastery, or explore the magical caves if you haven’t already. You will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs and experience the vibrant city’s nightlife.
Day 14 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
After breakfast, we’ll take the Prithvi Highway back to the capital. The gorgeous bus trip will once again keep you refreshed during the voyage. When we get to Kathmandu, we will say our goodbyes. May you enjoy the rest of your vacation in Nepal.
